You’re already on the right track.
On your way to break the sugar addiction.
Why do I even use the word “addiction”?
Because the effect of sugar on our brain is similar to the effect of illegal drugs. The difference that sugar is part of our day-to-day diet, while drugs are not.
See this MRI scan of our brain response to sugar, similar to cocaine:
When you understand those photos, you realize certain side effects actually mean you’re on the right track.
Difficult Now, Easier Later
It is difficult for us to say goodbye to sugar because we are addicted to it.
We love it because it makes us feel good for the moment while destroying our health later.
And it raises energy for a few minutes only to crash later, leading to depression and us to want more sugar.
This is why what you’re doing now is so wonderful! Once you break the sugar addiction, everything becomes easier.
But before it becomes easier, it becomes harder…
at least for the next few days.
Addiction Withdrawal Symptoms You Should Expect
These are completely normal and will pass within a few days.
Tiredness.
If you notice tiredness, it’s the addiction. It’s normal. When we’re tired, we feel more upset, too. Don’t fight the feeling, accept it.
Moody.
You may feel changes in your mood. It doesn’t mean you will be more depressed from now on. It just means it takes a few days to wean off the addiction.
And then your positive mood will be real. And not dependent on the last candy you ate.
Headaches.
It’s because your brain transition away from sugar. In the meantime, it creates a headache. It’s normal and passes within few days.
It Passes
So yes, it’s not fun for a few days. And the complete withdrawal can take up to two weeks, but it’s worth it!
Once you break the addiction, you won’t experience the same fluctuations of energy and tiredness that you may have felt in the past when you cut sugar and carbs.
The important thing to remember is those symptoms will pass.
And everything you do – the nutrition and the supplements – work together to hasten the process. You’ve never done all that before.
It’s the first time in your life you helped so body so much with sugar addiction, kudus! Your body will respond.
Things that Can Help Now
In the next two days, do not expect yourself to feel fully energetic.
It means it could your focus on your work may not be your highest.
Personally, I’d do work that doesn’t require my best focus.
Taking small rests and naps, as opposed to eating sweets, will give your body time to recharge the battery without eating sugar. Be proactive about it. Napping means you don’t eat sugar but gain energy.
Change your environment. because your brain will look for temptations. So it’s a good idea to cut temptations from your environment. Sweets, cakes. That will reduce the stimulation for eating sweets and sugar. And make it easy.
In short:
Expect.
Nap.
Reduce temptations.
Medical Note
Of course, if you think you’re sick or ill, it’s not a recommendation against seeking a medical advice. And if you’re taking blood-sugar drugs or BP drugs, these drugs can push your sugar & BP levels too low. That’s why a professional need to monitor these. In either cases, always seek professional advice.
